1 〔同等の位置にならぶ〕 rank with [among]…; be ranked with [among]…; take one's place with [among]…; have a place [seat] with [among]….

●その国にはまだ列強に伍してゆくだけの経済力がなかった. The country was not economically strong enough to rank with the Great Powers [be ranked as a Great Power].

・彼はこの道の一流人に伍して少しも遜色がない. He can well bear comparison with the very best in this field. | He is not at all inferior [quite equal] to the greatest artists in this area.

・技術力では大企業にじゅうぶん伍してゆける. The company is the technological peer [equal] of any major firm. | The firm is one of the major players in terms of technology.
